I noticed that PomoTime 1.7.5 would always open less than full size, cutting off the navigation arrow '<>' at the top right and making the user manually resize it. I fixed this by adjusting the program properties to always open "maximized" instead of "normal". Fantastic software, thanks!

Thank you for advising this issue. I'll try to fix it, it's not a nice behaviour.

Mac version
Dear Sir:

I have found pomotimer very useful. However, I bought a macbook air and found pomotimer does not have a mac version. Do you have a timetable for the mac version?
I would like to buy it in the apple store since I find pomotimer really useful.
Thanks!

Best wishes,

Yours: Shan

I was already thinking about it, other people asked it in the past. To tell the truth I don't have a clear idea of when to do it, but who knows, maybe in the future...

Questions and comments from a new user:

1. Is there a break timer and how do I use it?

2. It might be helpful to allow estimating duration on the Activity list

3. I'd like to be able to have longer task descriptions. Looks like it would be possible to double the length by using two lines on the to do sheet for each item.

4. Item to add to the how do I help: Move a task description from the activity sheet to the to do sheet.

Thanks,

Chris
Hi Chris,
thank you for your email. Find below my replies.
1. Yes, a break timer is automatically enabled after a pomodoro is completed. You can configure the break time interval in the Settings window (right-click on the main window => Settings)
2. In the upper right portion of the window you can find the score buttons, you can add/remove pomos, interruptions, etc.
The 1st button has a violet underscore sign and allows you to add pomo estimations to the current task (where the cursor is).
Right-click on this button to remove the pomo estimation.
It's similar for the other score buttons, check the tooltip for a quick explanation. You can the related score by left-clicking or remove it by right-clicking.
3. Currently the task description is limited to the length of the row. I hope it's not a big problem.
4. I'm taking note of your interesting suggestion.

Just started Pomodoro. PomoTime the best software, full featured. However, would be nice to select text with mouse &/or keyboard then either delete or copy and paste into another place.

Hi Andrew,

thanks for your feedback.

Once I was working to add text selection capability. Later I stopped and decided that a simpler functionality would be fine anyway. So in fact now you can copy/cut/paste text without selecting it. It is copied/cut ALL the line where the cursor is.
To cut/copy or paste you can use the small buttons on the upper part of the window (or right-click and select the option).

I HOPE THE WINDOW SIZE COULD BE CHANGED AND THE BACKGROUD COULD BE SET UP,THANKS A LOT! ..

Hi moss mocha,

at the moment the window size can be changed up to a maximum value for both width and heigth.
At the beginning width and heigth are set to the maximum value. You can decrease them by the mouse.
About the background you can right-click on the main window and select 'Settings'.
In the settings window you can select among some available backgrounds (or 'skins') like 'classic', 'white', ...

Hope that helps

The latest version seems to grab the focus after the timer runs out. Good to not miss that it has finished, but very annoying when you lose five minutes digitising because it grabs the focus. Was this a deliberate change? I wonder if it could be made optional?

Hi Michael,
yes, it could be a good idea to make it optional.
The change was a consequence to some people requesting it.

Yes, it certainly gets your attention, and I can see it being desirable. Just doesn't work well with some software that doesn't save what you are doing when interrupted. There is a bit of warning, I can probably get by quickly finishing my polygons.

The Program you have develop is bizarre in term user friend & it is direct translation from the original manual system by Francesco.

I'm glad that I use about 15 software for POMODORO range from Windows, Mac & IPAD. each one have their own pro & con.

Your software is really-really great.
If I could suggest, I would like to suggest this prorgam have the Alarm & Ticking Sound option in setting.
The ticking sound at the beggining is annoying for me but after a while, the ticking sound is the KEY for me to full focus & consentrate on each Pomodoro without interruption, it is some sort like being Spell or under Drug Hya.

Thank very much the Great Application,

Sincerely Yours,

Rahiman Mat Yassim
Putrajaya Malaysia
P/S: I hope to have this application cross platform Windows, MAC & Linux.

Hi Rahiman,

thanks for your feedback.

There's already an Alarm & Ticking Sound option in the setting window.
You can right-click on the main window and then select the check-boxes to enable the options.

Hi, I'm using PomoTime and first of all I would like to say thank you for so helpful tool.

I really like it but I would like to let you know some few things that I do miss:

1. It doesn't have undo/redo

2. You can't export sheets for a different day than the current one, so you can't plan your work properly, ie, for all the next week

3. Each task description has a limit of text which in some occasions may be short

Nothing else,

Thank you again for this great tool, I hope my comments could help,

Best regards,

José Luis

Do you think it is possible/necessary adding a SplitPane between 'To To Today' and 'Unplanned & urgent", so that make the up/down part sizable.

This is just a minior enhancement.

Anyway, thank you for this great tool.

Yes, that could be interesting. It would be nice to know what other users think about it.

I can't find the pomodoro done's option. My version hasn't that tool as you remarked by your tutorial.

Thanks

Hi Belen,

in the upper portion of the window you can find a group of score buttons on the right side.
If you LEFT-click on them you ADD that score.
Otherwise if you RIGHT-click on the button you REMOVE that score.

The last version 1.7.3 has the following group of buttons:
- Estimated pomos
- Completed Pomos
- Abandoned Pomos
- Internal Interruptions
- External Interruptions
- Completed Task

1. This software will be my favorite one in my whole life! It's just fantasy!!

2. But every time I want to reload my record before today, there is a warning:"Scores can be added when you are in To-do Sheet. Operation aborted." But i click the "ok" button, the warning window was always there, unless i used window task management to shut it down. BTW, my pomotime is 1.7.3.

3. If my sheet is blank, and i pressed the "List undone First" button, the line of "--unplaned and urgent--" would disappear. I want to find why. To tell the truth, my English is poor, so i don't quite understand what the "List Undone First" mean.....

4. Request a New Feature: could you please add a print tool? i'd love to use a printed pomotime sheet with me. Thanks!

5. you can't imagine how excited when i found this software! you are certainly the best Software designer i've ever met!!!!!! Thank you for design such a fabulous software!!

Hi Lang,
thanks alot for your feedback.
I'm taking note of the issues you mentioned. I will check and try to fix these problems as soon as I can.
The "List Undone First" option allows you to sort the tasks you have in the To-do Today sheet (except the ones in the 'unplanned & urgent' portion. It will re-order your tasks and list at first the tasks that are not completed and then the ones that are completed.
I added this feature because many people requested it.

The printing feature could be interesting as well.

Hi, I love the Pomodoro software and continue to use it every single day. I'm wondering when we can expect the next release, or a fix? I'm still having a problem that every time it starts up, the default settings I chose do not re-appear, specifically choosing Alarm Sound.

Thanks!

Hi David,
what release are you currently using?

Thanks for your quick reply. I had been using release 1.7.0 and hadn't realized there was a new release. I've downloaded the new release and it fixes the problem - thanks so much!
I've left a small donation. I wonder why Pomotime didn't recognize this was a new release when it does its automatic new release checkup? Thanks so much, love the software, I use it daily at work and to help me with my filmmaking hobby.

Thank you so much for your donation, David.
The last release just fixed that problem.
The automatic check for new version should occur every 5 times you launch the app and have completed a pomo. If for some reason it fails, i.e. you are not connected to the web, it will wait for other 5 times and so on.
I did not set the check to be more frequent not to be too annoying for the user.

Hi, thanks Antonio. Yes, I saw that it was performing the automated check for the new version several times, it just never seemed to recognize that there was a new version available. Not sure why not. But anyways, glad for the fix in the new version.

I really appreciate it.

I have a request about alarm.

I always mute audio in office. So, I cannot hear alarm sounds and often miss the pomodoro rings.

Can you consider to add some feature about visual alarm?

For example, it could help me that the pop-up dialog can be set to be always top-most.

Is there a way to save the Activity Inventory sheet? I see how to save a To Do Today sheet, but not the Activity Inventory sheet which is not something I would want to recreate every day.

Also, program is good but could be better if there was an alarm sound for the end of the pomodora...One is busy writing, studying, not looking at their computer and miss when the time has expired.

Hi I've been using Pomodoro Technique for personal time management for a couple of months and I've found PomoTime a perfect tool. However sinde version 1.7.0 I'm not able to save the Activity Inventory. It does save the To Do Today list with all scores but it's not saving the Inventory which kind of creates a pain since I have to retype it or I lost track of thing ToDo on the big picture.
Thanks for your help. And I will definitely support further development on this useful tool.

Nice UI. I love to work with your program.
The only thing I miss is, that the ticking and alarm sound should be stay enabled. After a restart of the program the checkboxes are disabled.
It seems, that it write the values in the registry, but during start they don\'t be read.

A sort of Book
Great to hear about that...

Other great thing would be to have some sort of "book" where you can review your past days without opening several files. I guess it could be written in top of the current app so you don't have to change lots of things... I don't know, but would be much better to have everything in one place instead of reviewing past days in separate files.

Thanks!

How to change the bell sound
Even though I use a simple electronic timer most of the time, this program looks great - very creative. Is there a way to change the bell sound? It would be nice to be able to chose something more gentle.

Hi Gordonp, thanks for your feedback.
Currently the app does not provide a way to change and select a different sound. That could be an interesting feature for future release.
The only way to achieve that is a dirty trick. You should manually replace the 'ding.wav' file - in the folder "C:\Program Files\PomoTime\sound" - with your favourite one to have a different ticking sound, instead replace 'ringin.wav' to have a different ringing tone when a pomo elapses.

Removing scores
Awesome tool, helps a lot, thanks for your efforts!

Speaking about removing scores, other very ergonomic way of achieving this would be to add a \"symmetric\" set of keyboard shortcuts, using (ctrl)+(SHIFT)+(score_shortcut_button) - so there would be (ctrl)+(key) combination for adding a score, and (ctrl)+(SHIFT)+(key) for removing the same score (I hope my explanation makes sense).
It would be especially helpful when one gets profficient w/ PomoTimer, since advanced users tend to use keyboard shortcuts more than a mouse, it speeds things up.

Best Regards!
Thank you, your suggestion is really interesting.

The maximum events per task is 8 (including internal/external interruptions). I'm at the beginning of the technique and these are far too little for me.

Anything I can do about it?

Windows 7 issue and predicting pomos

I ran into two issues installing today:
1) the win reg did not have a software/pomodoro entry after installing (win 7 64 bit) so I could not se the timer og fix the issue
2) I looked for a \'expected number og pomodoros\' for the tasks. Maybe I misunderstood the progamme, but at a quick glance this function was not to be found.

Hi Androiden,
thanks for your feedback.
About the point 1) are you using Windows 7 with 64 bit? I didn't test the program on Win7, so at the moment I don't know if it works fine.
2) Currently the number of expected pomos is not managed. Maybe in a future version.

Hi Antonio

1) Yes I run Windows 7, 64 bit. Sadly your bugfix seem not to work in that OS
2) Fair enough. I figured a couple of x'es or other text could do in the meantime.

Thanks for answering. It is a very nice piece of software you have made and I hope to be able to use it if you find time to make it work on W7 - from my quick review it is tha best pomodorotimer out there for windows OS.

:-)

Thanks for your comments Androiden,

just a quick question, are you using the last PomoTime v1.5.1 or the previous 1.5.0 ?

I downloaded today at 9:08 from the download page. Version reads 1.5.0. I'll add find time to test the update later ;)

Ok, in version 1.5.0 there was a bug that made the timer window disappear under certain circumstances.
So it's better to use version 1.5.1 where the bug was fixed.

The Timer?

Is their a visual timer available?

Hi John,
the timer is displayed as you start a new pomo by pressing 'F5' or alternatively you can click on the 'clock' icon'.
A separate small window is displayed with the count of minutes left, a tooltip shows further information on your task.
It is displayed even if you minimize the main PomoTime window, so you can have the screen free for other apps.

Predicting pomos

Hello. Thank you for this very useful tool. Like another user, I would be very grateful if you could implement a function to put in an estimate of how many Pomodoros it would take to complete a particular task. First with boxes, then if you have underestimated how long it will take, with circles.
Best wishes,
Mustafa

Inventory Feature
Hi - This is a great tool you've developed. COngratulations.

I'd be keen to see a little button that allowed you to transfer a Inventory item into the to do sheet, either
agains each item or one that takes the item from where the cursor item - an automated cut and past function.
Also as a new user I thought that the tomato symbol was for my pridiction of the number of pomodoro the just would
take, but it doest appear to be the case. I\'d love to be able to squash a tomato at the end of each pomodoro.

ANyway, keep the developments coming.

Hi JP,
thanks for your comments, I'll take note of your interesting suggestions.

Thanks for using PomoTime.

Timer disappears
I like the 1.4 version. For some reason, the new version couldn\'t show the clock box on top of everything. I liked it that way, so I can see the time left all the time at wherever I like. Did I do something wrong? or it\'s just the new feature of the 1.5 version. Thanks a lot.

Hi Xigua,

that's a bug that should be fixed with the next version, you can fix it for now in this way:

1 - close your PomoTime app

2 - access the Registry at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\
pomotime\settings
Look at the right pane.
Double-click on 'tmrwndx', set the value 0, press OK
double-click on 'tmrwndy', set the value 0, press OK.

3 - Restart PomoTime

Now the timer window should appear in the upper left-corner of the
window (and is draggable where you like).

Hope it helps

Yea! Thanks so much!!!

Predicting Pomos
Thanks for your wonderful efforts! I have ADD and this is one of the very few things that really do help maintaining my focus...(and yes, I have tried many other organizing methods).

My most desired feature is a method of estimating Pomodoros. For example: \"I think it will take me 2 pomos to finish this report and send it.\" What I would see on my To Do sheet is 2 outlined empty squares to the right of my task entry, where a \"pomodoro\" will explicitly show up when I complete the pomo.

This helps me: in the planning process, once I \"use up\" the number of pomos I have available in a

Hi Wayne,
thanks for your comment!
Yes an estimation of the pomos would be an interesting and useful feature, at the moment I haven't yet planned when to implement it. I was focusing on
- adding the capabiltiy to resize the window for people using small displays,
- automatically loading on the TodoToday sheet all uncompleted tasks from the last day and
- some minor bug-fixing.

To tell the truth those features are already working in version 1.5.1 which is ready since some weeks ago, I just have to upload it on Xoring website... if I find a tens of minutes....

First, THANK YOU for this great "little" app! Very well designed: simple, but very effective.

Request: I accidentally clicked on the Pomodoro icon instead of the clockface, so I need a way to quickly remove the incorrect Pomodoro. Perhaps something simple, like Shift-Click? Or put a \"Delete\" in the Right-Click context menu?

Thanks again for your good work...

Best regards,
Wayne
Hi Wayne,
thanks alot for your feedback.

Currently you can delete a score by right-clicking on the line where you want to remove the score, then select 'Scores..' > 'Cancel Last Score'.
From the '?' icon you can select 'How do I...' > 'Delete a score' and access a web page (http://www.xoring.com/helpdelscore.html) which shows how to do it.

A new icon to cancel scores could be an improvement.

MAC OSX version
This is the list of features I would like to see on a Mac OSX program.
Is a version of your Windows program coming for the Mac?

Tom

Hi Tom,
thanks for your email. I'm happy you appreciate so much PomoTime.
Other people already asked me for a Mac version of the app.
To tell the truth I've always made programs for Windows, I didn't plan to port PomoTime on other platforms. Anyway that could be an interesting thing to do. I should study a bit how to accomplish that.
